THWAPP!
THWAPP!
THWAPP!
HOLY CRAP!
And with a few salacious steps by the Seattle Slew of new, the axis of antithesis produced climatic synthesis.
Stuck in rush hour traffic on Sunset Blvd, mere blocks from my destination, I was patiently waiting for the light to change and a bicyclist passing through the line of stopped cars jolted my fond anticipation for the evening's events clear out of my red light rest.
The bike's handlebar caught my side view mirror causing the rider to tumble. and the bike to flip sideways, which put a fresh scrape / dent in my quarter panel.
Before the shock could dissipate, or for the color green to mean go, said bicyclist pedaled off into the Sunset and I was saddled with raging acronymity... WTF & FML!
But even though the universe collides haphazardly with one's reality now and zen, I knew I would soon be immersing my discontent with a heavily-seasoned, gruyere-laced Bowery burger and washing it down with a double-shot of Malbec. Thirty minutes later, I was feeling Ultramega OK.
By Crooked Steps, I'm Right Behind You
THWAPP!
My distant past met my present tense.
Nearly 23 years ago, I saw Soundgarden for the first time, though as a consequence of my predilection for a young band flattening preconceptions...Faith No More. Though after bearing witness to the explosive rock deity that was Soundgarden, my faith was forevermore.

In fact, while filing into the 1300-person capacity Fonda Theatre (in Hollywood) on Tuesday night to see one of only three intimate shows to celebrate the release of Soundgarden's triumphant new King Animal opus, it occurred to me, that of all the times I have seen the band over the years, this was the first time since that first time, that it would be at such a small theater.
Full circle. Full on Kevin's Mom.

By Crooked Steps, I'm Right Behind You
THWAPP!
Hipster to the left of me, hipster to the right, do I really have to walk this crooked path all night!
Over and over again, while making my way to the front of the general admission audience, I was caught in a tug-o-war with the palpable buzz of hardcore fans salivating for King Animal to roam their soul and the inebriated buzz of privileged piousness.
By Crooked Steps, I'm Right Behind You
HOLY CRAP!
IT'S
A
JESUS CHRIST POSE
I'm Feeling OUTSHINED!
I got an opportunity to meet Chris Cornell and the rest of the 206 crew (guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd, drummer Matt Cameron) during the Badmotorfinger tour.
Also being a huge Mother Love Bone fan, I did my best to garishly garnish my fashion sense in Andrew Wood glam (he died 5 weeks after I saw Soundgarden that first time).
For purely mystical reasons, I decided it would be wise to have Cornell autograph an Ace of Pentacles tarot card. Pragmatic and observant, this is the card of abundance that influences the material world to spread wealth your way...and perhaps a wealth of Spirits in the Material World would make a play for my existential cage.
Moving is breathing and Breathing is life...
Who let the water run down... Who let the river run dry.
Who let the water run down... Who let the river run dry.
In retrospect, the band made the right choice by going on hiatus on April 9, 1997 as they announced "Soundgarden Days Are Over" on their web site.
At the time, I was a member of the Knights of the Soundtable fan club and, as a faithful Knight since the club's inauguration, I received a token of platitude in the form of a see-through Christmas ornament in the shape of a pancake. It was flat and transparent. So was my view of the future of rock 'n roll...this was the late 90s after all!
I'm gonna break my Rusty Cage and RUN!
King Animal roams free, akin and a kin to the bellowing bulldozer of yore. Moving mountains as it reshapes Mother Earth, its sonic largess is piled so high that it seizes time as it enthralls human kind.
Whereas the bones of birds of circumstance may have, once upon a time, been a burden in my hand, they now signify the flower unto which my mind's eye can get on the snake and ride my wave.
Whereas the bones of birds of circumstance may have, once upon a time, been a burden in my hand, they now signify the flower unto which my mind's eye can get on the snake and ride my wave.
My heart rate hastens as I hear the crooked steps of a quartet of gardeners. I do not want to be trampled underfoot.
They're fastidiously digging deep underneath the annals of tectonic sound and foraging a subterranean subway that reaps what it sows. I tighten my seat-belt as they cruise forward with determination, askew on the pew of a badmotorcycle.

Let me retract my side view mirror to allow for safe passage to the future.
