The DISC EXCHANGE, Knoxville’s leading independent record store, in conjunction with F.A.Y. Recordings and AC Entertainment, is offering an exclusive promotion to celebrate the highly anticipated CD release and New Year's Eve concert by hometown favorites, THE V-ROYS.

As a special in-store only advance pre-sale on Thursday September 8 at 10am local time, the first thirty customers that purchase a ticket to the band’s reunion show at The Bijou Theatre on New Year’s Eve will also have the opportunity to buy an autographed copy of The V-Roys forthcoming Sooner or Later CD (due 9/27). Additionally, there will also be a number of tickets and non-autographed CDs available for purchase.

“We wanted to do something special for The V-Roys’ fans in Knoxville,” states F.A.Y Recordings GM, Bev Paul. “The love affair between the city and the band is legendary and The Disc Exchange is one of the best independent record stores in the country, so it was easy to say ‘Yes,’ when Disc Exchange CEO, John Bevis approached us with the idea.”

The V-Roys played their last show on New Year’s Eve 1999 at the historic Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville so it is only fitting that they are playing one last time for their loyal fans in Knoxville; this time at The Bijou.

For this special show-of-a-lifetime, the band will treat fans to a lengthy all-encompassing set of their recorded catalog and favorite covers. Keeping it all in the family, the evening will open with a set from former V-Roy, Mic Harrison accompanied by The High Score.

Sooner or Later is an 18-track collection of remastered material releasing on Miller’s F.A.Y. Recordings pairs thirteen previously released album tracks including fan favorites “Guess I Know I’m Right,” “Fade Away” and “Cold Beer Hello” with five unreleased studio recordings.

The two newly restored tracks, both penned by Harrison, represent the only unreleased original songs stashed in archives.

LIGHTS Flux And Flow On SIBERIA; US/Canada Tour Oct 18 - Jan 2012

In the study of transport phenomena (heat transfer, mass transfer and fluid dynamics), Flux is defined as flow per unit area, where flow is the movement of some quantity per time.

When it comes to the kinetic flow of electronic-rock maven, LIGHTS, her flux capacitor was squarely in synch with the fourth dimension during the creation of her sophomore full-length album, SIBERIA, due October 4th via Lights Music/Last Gang in the U.S. and via Universal Music Canada in her homeland.

“Making this second record was similar to making my first in that I completely discovered myself as an artist all over again,” said Lights. “I've evolved and I've grown more into myself; I'm so excited about the direction of this new album.”

Siberia was co-produced by Lights and her trusted collaborator, Thomas “Tawgs” Salter. Special guest producers include Graham Walsh & Brian Borcherdt from the Canadian indie-electro outfit, Holy Fuck.

The duo initially met Lights to record a couple of songs, but their artistic synergies clicked and eventually they completed nine tracks (including “Everybody Breaks A Glass” & first single “Toes”), peppering Siberia with Holy Fuck’s edgy organic grit and merging them with her trademark synth-pop sounds.

"Thankfully, Lights was open to letting Brian and I take a hold of her songs, and really mess them up. In the end, I think we were able to add a very interesting dark stain to them...in a good way!" Graham Walsh, Holy Fuck.

Lights - Everybody Breaks a Glass (feat. Holy F**k & Shad)

Previously, fans were treated to a sneak peak of Siberia when “Everybody Breaks A Glass” (“EBAG”) debuted on I AM LIGHTS.COM.

The track features an appearance by Toronto’s lyrically gifted rapper, Shad, who Lights met through a mutual friend and eventually collaborated on two tracks (“EBAG” & “Flux and Flow”).

EVOLOVE Wake Up Call; HOT TOPIC Exclusive World Premiere

Hollywood, CA: Alt-rockers EVOLOVE, fronted by charismatic vocalist Lucy Levinsohn, have released the official video for WAKE UP CALL with an Exclusive World Premiere via HOT TOPIC:

The video showcases the dynamic first single from the group’s sophomore Ep, Breaking Heartstrings (released August 9th). In conjunction with its availability at digital retailers, Hot Topic stores are exclusively offering a version on CD, via in-store kiosks, as well as collector’s edition band tees.

Additionally, HOT TOPIC have also anointed EVOLOVE as its September Unsigned Band Of The Month.

“Wake Up Call,” with its penetrating emotional urgency and meteor shower of wattage casts a psychological safety net sure to unite a nation of “broken heartstrings”. Led by the twin stack, guitar attack of Dave Corsile and Colby Jensen and bolstered by the propulsive low-end theory of bassist Billy Berman, it’s a four-minute gut-check that packs a heavyweight wallop.

The correlating video, a mélange of campy revelry, old western folklore and a dab of voodoo, was conceived by Levinsohn and Swedish audiovisual phenom Iggi Ogard (Piñata Protest) and filmed during one twenty-hour day on a horse ranch in the celebrity-filled hills above Mulholland Drive.

A wake up call is on speed dial and it’s no head fake. Rounding out the remainder of Heartstrings (the inaugural release on the band’s very own HeartChord Records), producer Michael Eisenstein (Letters to Cleo, The Posies, Cruiserweight) adds a trademark pop sheen to the mid-tempo “Irony of Life,” the anthemic alt-rock of “Four Walls,” the theatrical Iron Maiden dynamism of “Fear (Is A Four Letter Word)” and the passionate yearning of “Nothing But Me” which brings to mind power ballads by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shinedown and Staind.

Systematically erecting a delicate balance between soaring melodies and aggressive elegance, the new songs represent a natural evolution expanding upon the musical footprint of 20:12 Countdown to the End, an auspicious debut mixed by Brian Virtue (Audioslave, 30 Seconds to Mars, Deftones) that fostered an array of key placements on ABC's top-rated teen drama Pretty Little Liars as well as MTV’s hit shows Made, True Life and Teen Mom.

Last summer, EVOLOVE (pronounced Eh-Voh-Luv) were thrust into the national spotlight as finalists of the FreeCreditScore.com band search. Debuting the group’s commercial during the MLB All-Star game on FOX, the spot amassed millions of impressions across broadcast and cable spectrums. Significant airplay on outlets such as ESPN, CNN and CNBC led to further exposure on MTV and LA’s KTLA TV.

Congealing the TV awareness with incessant touring, EVOLOVE was a featured artist during Hot Topic’s successful “Shop Till You Rock" tour before commencing on a non-stop canvassing of festivals, bars, all-ages clubs, high schools and key industry events including the 2011 Winter NAMM Convention and the 25th Annual SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX.

This summer, EVOLOVE is putting the rubber to the road once again on their first-ever cross-country jaunt. Joining them for the initial batch of dates are Hollywood hard rockers Stitched Up Heart (led by glitter-girl Mixi Demner), whom have a new Ep entitled Escape The Nightmare on the horizon.

Both bands will then assimilate an axis point of a Reinforcement Tour triumvirate coalesced by ethereal metal quintet Gemini Syndrome and its lead prognosticator, Aaron Nordstrom.

Christina Perri: A Sanguine Penguin; A True Blue Trou Revue

Bang. Bang. Bang.

Last Friday was CHRISTINA PERRI's birthday.
25 years young and resolutely lovestrong.

The previous Thursday night, it was "our" birthday as Ms. Perri gave the gift of herself to an ebullient sold-out crowd at the Troubadour in LA, the triumphant last stand of her first U.S. headlining tour celebrating the release of her debut album on Atlantic Records (she also played dates this spring opening for James Blunt).

Different faces, different names but the premise remains the same. Over the past few years, I've found myself at the world famous Troubadour to absorb the ambiance of supremely talented female singers (Lissie, Lights, Brooke Fraser, Nicole Atkins, Sierra Kusterbeck) who passionately emote heart-on-their-sleeves lyrics to a rapturous audience singing every word in unison.

It's the equivalent of a collective out-of-body experience. It's cathartic and engaging and indelibly sustaining and ranks among the top five of psychic vampire approved activities.

It was much the same with Christina though, perhaps, because of her meteoric rise to stardom since her appearance a year ago on So You Think You Can Dance, to being a sold-out hometown show, to capping a wildly successful tour, to being the exact one-year Anniversary of meeting her guitarist/boyfriend/muse to having friends and family in the audience, there was a level of palpable energy that was a notch above the typical pandemonium.

It reminded me of seeing Paramore at The Wiltern in 2007 on their Riot! tour. If spontaneous combustion was truly possible, we were on the precipice, both then and now.

It was a remarkable performance and sure to be a defining moment in her career. Before us was an artist singing some of the most heart-wrenching lyrics and she did it with such a beaming effervescence, it nearly contradicted the very nature of its inner essence.

How the hell does a broken heart get back together when it's torn apart?

Con musica...¡Sí, Se Puede!

Take me backwards. Turn me around.

Can I find my balance on the ground?
It all starts with a bang. bang. bang.

Drummer Elmo Lovano (whom looks like John Petrucci and plays like Mike Portnoy) came down to the stage to hype up the crowd with a call-and-response four on the floor. Then bassist Jenni Tarma sauntered across to command her spot before keyboardist Scott Chesak took his place and guitarist John Anderson joined the fray.

And then the seas parted with an uproarious eruption upon the arrival of one miss Christina Judith Perri. Dramatic anticipation etched in time.

Playing the majority of her gorgeously sublime lovestrong album, including the bonus track "Black & Blue," the exquisite "The Lonely" (which she wrote at 2AM in her car), "Daydream" (from The Ocean Way Sessions), a cover of Tom Petty's "Breakdown" (which she prefaced by proclaiming that the song was about getting "sexy"), a new song called "Jacksonville," and the one that kickstarted her rapid ascent, "Jar of Hearts" (which she wrote in her pajamas), there was a perpetual din of electricity that caused time to evaporate in an instant.

Some artists can bear their soul behind closed doors but not in a crowded room of predisposition, even from fervent admirers. Christina seems at ease on the stage displaying a playful, confident aura while also seemingly practicing for future arena-friendly posturing.

Also on display is an 8-page tour rider (easily searchable on the world wide web) drafted by the William Morris Agency with a Hospitality clause (food/beverage) that is a fascinating peek at modern-day big-agency riders for a major-label artist.

No mention of an abhorrence of "brown M&M's" but a stated preference for "Blue flavors" of Orbit Sugarless gum is just a colorful taste of the intensely-specific health-conscious laundry list of requirements, everything from organic baby spinach to Gluten-free Hummus to Taste Nirvana Coconut Water to fresh guacamole and Crudités.

And at all costs, NO ONIONS, unless it's a writer for the A/V Club. It should be noted that absolutely no onions were grilled, roasted, sautéed, flambéed or subjected to crystallization on the premises (PETO crisis averted, yes Patrons for the Epicurean Treatment of Onions can breathe easy, purity of olfactics intact).

If you could envision the meaning of a tragedy,
you might be surprised to hear...

...A near perfect confluence of dynamism and emotions as embodied in "Tragedy". Evocative expressionism nestled within a morose minor-key melody punctuated by a sorrow-filled fiddle is a swath of resolute beauty.

On it, Perri's voice reminds me of a Natalie Merchant/Neko Case/Tori Amos lovechild and when she unfurls her plight of "La La La's," it burrows in your soul, leaving a soulprint, a permanent residue.

On this night, she invited the entire opening band to join in and HoneyHoney violinist Suzanne Santo deftly emulated its tragic reverberations. A band of joy born out of tragedy.

I asked Christina after the show about the possibility of adding a new body or two to her revue. Since much of the new record includes orchestration, she intimated a desire to decorate her live shows with some bows.

When it comes down to it...

A future Christina Perri hometown show without the elegiac meter of horsehair caressing the taut strings of vintage hollow wood in Hollywood seems like a true blue old school tragedy.

New EVANESCENCE; AMY LEE Is WHAT YOU WANT!

It's been five long years since The Open Door cemented EVANESCENCE featuring singer AMY LEE as a global force to be reckoned with. Many challengers to the throne have come and gone as the throngs have waited patiently for the triumphant return.

Thousands of hours of introspection, soul-searching, piano plunking and harp strumming later, Amy is gearing up to rule the airwaves, video displays and foster tidal waves of data waves, as the band's self-titled third studio album is being readied for an October 11 release via Wind-up Records.

Dramatic dynamic operatic rock!
It's exactly WHAT YOU WANT:

Evanescence - What You Want

"What You Want" marks the first newly available music from Evanescence since "Together Again," a song inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia that was written during The Open Door sessions. The song was not included on the album but was released in early 2010 as a charity single to help with the efforts in Haiti.

Recorded in Nashville with producer Nick Raskulinecz, Lee says that selecting "What You Want" as the album's debut single was "a really natural choice. It's kind of about coming back in some ways: it's about the fans, it's about this Evanescence renaissance that we're having, and I think it makes sense."

EVANESCENCE - WHAT YOU WANT
Do what you what you want, if you have a dream for better
Do what you what you want till you don't want it anymore
(remember who you really are)

Do what you what you want, your world's closing in on you now
(it isn't over)
Stand and face the unknown
(got to remember who you really are)

Every heart in my hands like a pale reflection
Hello, hello remember me?
I'm everything you can't control
Somewhere beyond the pain
There must be a way to believe we can break through

Do what you what you want, you don't have to lay your life down
(it isn't over)

Do what you what you want
Till you find what you're looking for
(got to remember who you really are)
But every hour slipping by screams that I have failed you

Hello, hello remember me?
I'm everything you can't control
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe
Hello, hello remember me?
I'm everything you can't control
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe

There's still time
Close your eyes
Only love will guide you home

Tear down the walls and free your soul

Till we crash we're forever spiraling down, down, down, down

Hello, hello, its only me
Infecting everything you love
Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe
Hello, hello remember me?
I'm everything you can't control
Somewhere beyond the pain
There must be a way to learn forgiveness
Hello, hello remember me?
I'm everything you can't control
Somewhere beyond the pain
There must be a way to believe we can break through

Do what you what you want

PAUL KELLY Songs From The South (40 Songs; 1985-2008) Due Sept 6

In North America, PAUL KELLY is loved by a fervent following of devoted, discerning listeners. In his native Australia, though, where his songs are lodged deeply in the country’s soundtrack, Kelly is virtually a national hero.

On September 6, Gawdaggie Music/CEN through RED Distribution will release Kelly’s Songs From the South, Volumes 1 & 2 in the U.S., featuring a quick tour of 40 songs spanning 1985 through 2008. List price for the two-CD set is $13.98, and $9.99 for the digital version.

Paul Kelly Greatest Hits: Songs From The South Volumes 1 & 2

Additionally, Kelly will come to North America in September to perform his “A to Z” repertoire in five major cities: Chicago (Sept. 12/13), Los Angeles (Sept. 14/15), Vancouver (Sept. 18/19), Toronto (Sept. 23/24) and New York (Sept. 26/27).

In a career that spans more than 30 years, Kelly has released a steady stream of albums that showcase his emotionally vivid, musically expansive songwriting, capturing the essence of the Australian landscape while demonstrating Kelly’s uncanny ability to distill a novel’s worth of narrative and character detail into a straightforward, effortlessly accessible melodic pop tune.

Rolling Stone’s David Fricke has called Kelly “one of the finest songwriters I have ever heard, Australian or otherwise,” while Neil Finn of Crowded House has said, “There is something unique and powerful about the way Kelly mixes up everyday detail with the big issues of life, death, love and struggle — not a trace of pretense or fakery in there.” Or, as his fellow Australian Kasey Chambers put it, “If I was only allowed to listen to one artist for the rest of my life, I would choose Paul Kelly.”

Kelly’s stature as a world-class troubadour is confirmed by the release of Paul Kelly’s Greatest Hits: Songs From the South (Volumes 1 & 2), the most comprehensive compilation to date of his recorded work, on Gawdaggie Music/CEN (distributed by RED). The career-spanning two-CD set features 40 songs drawn from Kelly’s esteemed album catalog, combining fan favorites, rare gems and numerous notable songs previously unreleased in North America.

Songs From the South (Volumes 1 & 2) spearheads an ambitious reissue program that will restore Kelly’s remarkable body of recordings to the American market. The campaign also encompasses his dazzling eight-CD, 105-song live box set The A-Z Recordings, which will be available exclusively via Amazon.com, as will Kelly’s mongrel memoir How To Make Gravy, and its corresponding iPhone and iPad App, which combines the book and the music. His entire (non-A&M) catalog will be made available digitally as well.

In January 2012, physical reissues of Kelly’s original albums (most of which have long been out of print, or never released, in America) will begin to become available via Amazon Disc on Demand.

In recent years, Kelly has showcased both the depth of his songbook and his skills as a solo performer with his long-running series of Paul Kelly A-Z shows, in which the artist works his way through an alphabetical list of more than 100 songs during a four-night stand of unplugged concerts.

Kelly has also won numerous awards, including eight Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Music Awards, and was induced into that organization’s Hall of Fame in 1997.

In spanning his entire recording career, Songs From the South (Volumes 1 & 2) demonstrates that Paul Kelly’s recent output has remained as adventurous and compelling as the early work that first established him as a major artist. His songs remain as fresh and inspired as ever.

Wynton Marsalis And Eric Clapton: In Theaters Sept 7; CD/DVD Sept 13

Grammy Award® winning artists WYNTON MARSALIS and ERIC CLAPTON will offer fans a spellbinding evening of blues and jazz in Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton Play the Blues, a one-night in-theater concert event broadcast to nearly 550 movie theaters nationwide on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. local time.

The concert also includes a special appearance by blues musician Taj Mahal, who joins the duo for two songs, as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage. This intimate performance from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City brings together an unrivaled cross-generational, cross-cultural collaboration as the pair of musical virtuosos brought to life a repertoire of songs selected by Clapton and arranged by Marsalis. Captured this past spring from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s renowned annual gala, the iconic duo, performed to a sell-out crowd.

Tickets for Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton Play the Blues are available at participating theater box offices and online at FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

Presented by NCM Fathom and Reprise Records, Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton Play the Blues will be broadcast nationwide through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.

“We’re playing music we know and love,” says Marsalis.
Marsalis is a trumpeter, composer, bandleader, music educator and Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has been awarded nine Grammy awards and “Blood on the Fields” was the first jazz piece to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music.

Clapton is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the bands The Yardbirds and Cream. Clapton, a 17-time Grammy award winner, has been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time.

“Jazz at Lincoln Center is truly one of the most distinguished producers of jazz music in the country,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of NCM Fathom. “Both jazz and blues enthusiasts alike will be left speechless by the eclectic mix of music and heartfelt performances of this power-duo.”

New York City’s premier jazz venue got the blues last April when Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton performed together in Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center for two sold-out shows dedicated to vintage blues. The extraordinary collaboration, billed as Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play the Blues, paired these musical virtuosos with members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as they brought to life a repertoire of songs selected by Clapton and arranged by Marsalis.

Reprise Records captures the magic of these unprecedented shows from earlier this year on CD and as a CD/DVD combo that both feature selections taken from the two public concerts (April 8-9), as well a special performance for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s annual gala (April 7).

WYNTON MARSALIS & ERIC CLAPTON PLAY THE BLUES - LIVE FROM JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER will be available September 13 at physical and digital retail outlets for suggested list prices of $18.98 (CD), $24.98 (CD/DVD) and $9.99 (digital – audio only). The DVD will also feature a bonus performance of the classic "Stagger Lee" from legendary bluesman Taj Mahal's opening solo set for these special shows.

Marsalis, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and nine-time Grammy® Award winner, writes about his collaboration with Clapton in the album’s liner notes: “...we wanted these concerts to sound like people playing music they know and love, not like a project.”

To help them achieve that level of devotion, Marsalis and Clapton were joined on stage by Dan Nimmer (piano), Carlos Henriquez (bass), Ali Jackson (drums), Marcus Printup (trumpet), Victor Goines (clarinet), Chris Crenshaw (trombone, vocals), Don Vappie (banjo) and Clapton’s longtime keyboardist/sideman Chris Stainton.

Marsalis says the group combined the sound of an early blues jump-band with the sound of New Orleans jazz to accommodate the integration of guitar/trumpet lead, a combination that gave the musicians the latitude to play different grooves, from the Delta to the Caribbean and beyond.

The band nimbly navigated a diverse set list that touched on different styles, from the four-on-the-floor swing of Louis Armstrong’s “Ice Cream” and the southern slow-drag of W.C. Handy’s “Joe Turner’s Blues” to the traveling blues of “Joliet Bound” and the boogie-woogie jump of “Kidman Blues.” After opening the shows with his solo set, Mahal returned to join the band on “Corrine, Corrina” and the New Orleans funeral standard “Just A Closer Walk With Thee.”

The one song not selected by Clapton for the show was his own “Layla,” which was requested by bassist Henriquez and arranged as a Crescent City dirge to tremendous results. On his review of the performance, David Fricke of Rolling Stone wrote: “In the [song’s] instrumental break, Clapton hit a series of stabbing licks lightly crusted with distortion, followed by Marsalis’ slow parade of clean hurting peals – a moving dialogue in lovesickness and blues routes.”
