Sarah VonderHaar P.D.L. (Free MP3)

On August 24th, accomplished singer SARAH VONDERHAAR spreads her songwriting wings once again with a new EP entitled P.D.L, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2008 debut Are You Listening Now.

On this new four-song digital release, VonderHaar showcases four distinct songwriting styles; from the sultry vampy swing of “Howling At the Moon” to the candy-coated Colbie Caillat choruses of “All Mine” to the plaintive emotional immediacy of the title track “Pretty Damn Lucky” to the finger-snapping piano-pop of “What I’m Feeling About You” which effortlessly blends freeform phrasing and lyrical introspection akin to repertoire from Ben Folds and Regina Spektor.

With TV Guide asserting that Sarah VonderHaar is “on the verge of pop-rock stardom,” major companies and sponsors have also taken note of Sarah’s captivating voice, beautiful looks and upbeat personality. VonderHaar has attracted endorsements from the likes of Fender Guitars and Sennheiser, while her songs have been chosen as musical backdrops for both Jockey and Chevrolet commercials. Sarah was also included in a Go-Gurt Yogurt campaign, and in a national advertising campaign with Mead Notebooks, which rolled out to Target stores in June.

While P.D.L. represents yet another step towards musical superstardom, it’s just one facet of a non-stop whirlwind of activity over the past few years for the gregarious 23-year old. Still recognized from her participation on season eight of America’s Next Top Model, Sarah continues to model part time for Elite Chicago (where she started when she was 16). Sarah also devotes time to speak to groups at local schools to encourage girls to follow their dreams. As this experience is especially rewarding for her, she will soon bolster her burgeoning status as a role model by launching a Livestream channel to self-broadcast her goodwill message to continue to engage and encourage young lives around the world.

Striking the right balance between her multi-talented ambitions is a delicate process that always leads her back to her first love; writing music and performing her songs live. To that end, Sarah will celebrate the release of P.D.L. with a special all ages show (presented by Girl360) at Schuba’s in Chicago on Thursday September 2. Leading up to the gig will be an exclusive ‘Going Viral’ web feature on the local KISSFM radio station web site.

Girl360 welcomes Sarah VonderHaar - P.D.L. Record Release:
Sept 2 – Schuba’s, Chicago, IL - 7:00 PM (All Ages / $10.00) TICKETS

MATT VON RODERICK: Alt-Jazz; Miles Davis Meets Radiohead

Critically-acclaimed and award-winning singer/trumpeter MATT VON RODERICK will debut new music and a fully-produced concert stage show, A Technicolor Experience, at King King in Hollywood on Monday, August 2 at 7pm. This unique combination of aural and visual delights is helmed by Kristin Hanggi, who developed and directed the lauded Tony-nominated musical, Rock of Ages.

The concert will feature songs from Matt’s upcoming full-length record, which remarkably mesh influences from the alternative and indie rock classifications with Matt’s classic jazz virtuosity. The unusual collaboration of sounds lays a foundation for his equally textured vocals.

“an amalgamation of Miles Davis and Radiohead” All About Jazz
“a post-millennial Chet Baker” The New York Times
“innovative… striking and multidimensional music” Star Ledger
“a top drawer trumpeter who also sings like an angel obscured by a storm cloud" JazzTimes

A product of the eclectic NYC scene and currently based in Los Angeles, Matt possesses a rare combination of commercial and progressive aesthetics, having toured internationally, recorded and/or collaborated with such diverse artists as: Neil Diamond, Musiq Soulchild, Brad Mehldau, Super Furry Animals, DJ Spinna, John Corigliano, Lenny Pickett, Robert Sadin, John Medeski from MMW, Complexions Dance Company, Skitch Henderson, and Nneena Freelon. His work as a performer has been featured on NBC's Saturday Night Live, the nationally syndicated presidential race coverage on MSNBC, and as both soloist and composer at Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Backing Matt are guitarists Jeremy Bieber and Brett Farkas, drummer Mike Bennett, bassist Nando Raio with Elysa Gomez, Ramona DuBarry and Celina Nightengale on vocals. The Dancing Dames of RubyBlues will be featured with the band as well as interactive projection by Sean Forrester. Opening the show are Rob Giles (from The Rescues) and Fay Wolf.

Director Kristin Hanggi developed and directed Rock of Ages, an 80’s rock musical, for which she was nominated for 2009 Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Direction. She also helmed the Toronto, off-Broadway, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles productions of Rock of Ages, and the current production, now running on Broadway. Other productions include the Ovation, LA Weekly and Robby Award-winning pop opera BARE and the Pussycat Dolls Live at the Roxy with Christina Applegate, Carmen Electra and special guests Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Brittany Murphy, Nikka Costa and Charlize Theron.

Choreographer Kelleia has worked with The Coen Brothers, Milos Forman, Robert Zemeckis, Bill Condon, Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Toni Braxton and Robin Williams. She performs with professional burlesque groups Cherry Boom Boom, Rouge and Harlow Gold.

PANTERA...Cowboys From Hell Turns 20!

PANTERA found its growl and groove on COWBOYS FROM HELL, a landmark album whose bone-powdering intensity, razor-sharp riffing and pummeling rhythmic assault represented a turning point in modern metal when it was released in 1990. More than just Pantera’s major label debut, many consider this album to be the official debut of the PANTERA lineup with singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown.

To celebrate the 20-year anniversary of COWBOYS FROM HELL, Rhino rounds up a three-disc Ultimate Edition, a three-disc Deluxe Edition, and a two-disc Expanded Edition. All three editions include a newly remastered version of the original album along with unreleased and rare live performances from the “Cowboys From Hell” Tour.

The Ultimate and Deluxe Editions will also feature a disc of unreleased demos for nearly every album track, plus, “THE WILL TO SURVIVE,” a previously unreleased song recorded during the album’s sessions.

“’The Will To Survive’ is a great track. With so many killer songs, it was hard to pick and choose the ones that should make our major label debut,” says Paul. “After hearing it for the first time in about 20 years, its a pretty stellar performance and I am definitely proud that it will see the light of day for all the die hard PANTERA fans around the world! It shows the true musical diversity of the band at that time!”

The Deluxe and Expanded Editions of COWBOYS FROM HELL will be released September 14 at all retail outlets, including www.pantera.com and www.rhino.com. The Deluxe Edition will be available for a suggested list price of $29.98 (physical) and $17.99 (digital) and the Expanded Edition for $19.98 (physical) and $12.99 (digital).

The Ultimate Edition will feature all three discs included in the Deluxe Edition and will be housed in an intricate box including several replica memorabilia pieces from the Cowboys era. The Ultimate Edition will be available on November 23 and final pre-order details, as well as the contents, will be unveiled soon on PANTERA's FACEBOOK page.

Along with the remastered version of COWBOYS FROM HELL, all three sets include a disc of live music recorded during the tour for the album. It begins with seven unreleased performances from Pantera’s September 15, 1990 appearance at the Foundations Forum metal convention in California, a show recorded for radio broadcast but never released commercially. The remainder of the disc contains the five-song EP Alive And Hostile, a collection of performances recorded in 1991 at the Monsters of Rock festival in Moscow that was previously available only in Australia as part of a 1994 boxed set.

The Ultimate and Deluxe Editions of COWBOYS FROM HELL include a third disc that contains the previously unreleased “The Will To Survive,” along with demos for 10 of the album’s 12 songs, including early versions of the title track, “Psycho Holiday,” “The Art Of Shredding” and “Cemetery Gates.”

After being turned down “twenty-eight times by every major label on the face of the earth,” ATCO Records A&R rep Mark Ross saw the band when Hurricane Hugo stranded him in Texas. The rest, as they say, is history, including another seven years and over a million miles of touring for COWBOYS to be certified Platinum (one million album sales) by the RIAA.

The album’s liner notes include essays by each of the band’s surviving members, producer Terry Date, and the aforementioned Ross. Recalling the first time he saw PANTERA, Ross writes, “By the end of the first song, my jaw was on the floor. The sonic power of it all—the attitude and the musicianship—blew me away. Basically, you had to be an idiot to not think they’re amazing. I mean, how could you see these guys and not think, Holy shit!?”

KT TUNSTALL "Push That Knot Away" (from TIGER SUIT)

On the eve of the 2010 Open Championship at St Andrews, there's a St Andrews, Scotland native that, perhaps, is offering Tiger Woods some advice via the title and lyrics from the first single off her eagerly-anticipated new album TIGER SUIT, due Sept 20th in the UK and Sept 28th in the U.S. The song is called PUSH THAT KNOT AWAY and it's a scintillating humdinger that made its A/V debut this past week as a performance/behind-the-scenes video:

TIGER SUIT was recorded at Berlin's famous HANSA studio which is located beside the site of the Berlin Wall and has been used to make legendary albums including David Bowie's Heroes and U2's Achtung Baby. The album was produced by Jim Abbiss, known for his work with Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Editors and Kasabian.

Describing her new music as "Nature Techno" (due to its blend of organic instrumentation and electronic, dance-friendly textures), TUNSTALL co-wrote several tracks with songwriters/producers Linda Perry and Greg Kurstin, as well as her long-time collaborators Martin Terefe and Jimmy Hogarth, both of whom contributed to Drastic Fantastic and its predecessor, 2006's platinum-seller Eye To The Telescope.

KT is doing two special solo shows to preview TIGER SUIT; at Hiro Ballroom in NYC on July 13 and at The Hotel Cafe in L.A. on July 15.

KT TUNSTALL "SOLO"
TIGER SUIT SET LIST

Glamour Puss
Madame Trudeaux
Uummannaq Song
Funnyman
Other Side of the World
Hold On
(Still A) Weirdo
Push That Knot Away
Suddenly I See
Fade Like A Shadow
Black Horse and the Cherry Tree

Btw, we thought werewolves and cougars were in vogue but perhaps tigers are actually the mammal du jour as buzzbin singer LISSIE is CATCHING A TIGER with her new release (which coincidentally has a song title using the word "knot") and with Ms. TUNSTALL set to don her it-came-to-me-in-a-dream inspired TIGER SUIT, it portends to the re-alignment of the hierarchal order of the hot-blooded animal kingdom within Hollywood. And as the character "Daisy" from 'PTKA' would attest, the re-emergence of tigers was foretold; "You KNOW this. You Know THIS already."

THE RESCUES Have Let Loose Their Horses

Imagine an esoteric musical daydream in which the likes of David Gray, Alison Krauss, 1970's-era Don Henley and Joan Jett gather round to form a modern day supergroup. Intriguing? What if it were to happen organically...

Meet THE RESCUES, an LA-based band comprised of four solo singer-songwriters; Adrianne Gonzalez, Kyler England, Gabriel Mann, and Rob Giles whose music recalls the soaring emotions of Coldplay, the earthiness of Fleetwood Mac and the introspection of Death Cab for Cutie while setting themselves apart by combining each of their intrepid perspectives into one harmonious voice.

(Adrianne Gonzalez, Gabriel Mann, Kyler England, Rob Giles)

THE RESCUES have quickly made a name for themselves as a powerful live act with a completely democratic melding of their collective talents. Each member sings lead, plays a merry-go-round of instruments and takes a seat or a stand behind the drum kit. And while they're voraciously cheered on for their flawless, transcendent harmonies which anchor every song, it's the songs, themselves, that ultimately leave a lasting impression.

The group's alluring full-length debut LET LOOSE THE HORSES (Universal Republic) which includes the anthemic title track, the plaintive tour-du-force "You're Not Listening" and the beguiling electro-pop ditty “Break Me Out” (as heard on Grey's Anatomy) was digitally released on June 22 (CD out July 6). As a lead-up to the album's release, the foursome took their venerating stage show across the country culminating with a celebratory sold-out "record release show" at The Troubadour in West Hollywood.

At this storied rock club on a glorious Friday night; fans, friends and family were treated to a rousing inspired set featuring the songs from LET LOOSE THE HORSES. The dynamic ebb and flow of the set provided a well-paced emotional journey that included the playful hand-clapping bounciness of "Stay Over," the haunting urgency of "Start A Riot," the eloquent piano-driven ballad "The City and The River" and the propelling summer breeziness of "Before The Fall" which seamlessly morphed into a few verses of Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell".

At the end of each song as the band members traded spots and instruments, they were showered in a progressively escalating unison of vocal appreciation. The crowd's gratitude reached a momentous crescendo after the poignant four-part acapella "My Heart With You" and after several minutes of rapturous applause, THE RESCUES took the stage once again to perform a spirited cover of Tears For Fears "Shout," a fitting end to a triumphant evening.
