Aussie Soul Singer Guy Sebastian Releases His U.S. Debut Album

Aussie singer GUY SEBASTIAN's debut U.S. album LIKE IT LIKE THAT is being released this month through an exclusive arrangement with Barnes & Noble stores which will carry the CD beginning June 29. Additionally, the album was made available for sale on June 8th at iTunes, Amazon and other digital services.

Recorded over six months in Los Angeles and New York, the album was produced by David Ryan Harris (John Mayer, Mariah Carey, Nick Jonas, Marc Broussard) and Fredrick Rodesjo, with John Mayer's guitarwork featured on "All To Myself," "Fail To Mention" and "Never Be You". The result is an album of true musical depth, an album that perfectly showcases the rare and charismatic talent of Guy Sebastian - big sounds, big beats, blasting horns and those oh-so-soulful Sebastian vocals.

And for the first time creatively, Sebastian says he's exactly where he wants to be. "I'm in a really happy place musically," says Guy, "because this is exactly the style of music I want to do and that I've wanted to do for so long. It's not about me changing the world; it's just about fun music, pure and simple."

The album's title track and first single "Like It Like That" revs the energy up with its opening claps and vintage Wurlitzer organ that immediately transcends into an all-out expression of supreme joy. It segues into "All To Myself," which hits you with its nod to classic '60s soul, from the beautiful harmonies of the backing vocals to the big blast of the horn section; this song rises and rises again to a joyous crescendo.

The feel-good vibes permeate throughout the funky, bass-heavy "Never Hold You Down" which has a companion video that was recently shot along the boardwalk at Venice Beach, CA with a cast of over 70 characters including a marching band. The song is Guy's personal favorite from the new album. "This I wrote about a friend of mine, who is wonderful. She's one of those girls that you would hate to be her boyfriend, because you would know as much as you would want to believe that you've got her, you know that you don't...I'll never be able to hold you down."

Overall, LIKE IT LIKE THAT is an inspired collaboration of credentialed producers and musicians and features two powerful duets, one with American Idol winner Jordin Sparks called "Art of Love" and a swinging toe-tapper called “Magic” featuring Melbourne singer Tarryn Stokes. Elsewhere, the mood goes deeper with the lush, orchestral sounds of "Bring Yourself," a luxurious ode to Guy's wife Jules.

Sebastian is continuing to commute between the US and Australia for the remainder of 2010. He’s scheduled to play some select west coast dates in July, including three special guest appearances to duet with Jordin Sparks, before returning to his homeland to gear up for his participation as a celebrity judge alongside Natalie Imbruglia and Ronan Keating on the new season of The X Factor.

There is no doubt that Guy Sebastian has the “X” factor as a true soul singer with a unique modern sound.

"I wrote the music on this album based on how I feel when I listen to the Otis Reddings and the Wilson Picketts of the world. I'll put that music on and it always just lifts me and makes me feel great. Music is so powerful. It's powerful enough on a personal level, without me trying to change the world," says Guy. "I just want to change someone's ten minutes on the way to work."

VersaEmerge - Fixed At Zero

Here we are, rooted deep, looking up. So sun sweet...
Until the fall we lose it all...
Here we are

...So lost in it...

...A swirling confluence of intense music, visceral lyrical imagery, transitional theatrical soundscapes and subversive wit fuel VersaEmerge who won't be fixed at zero for long but rather fixed at zero to sixty mph in four seconds flat. Carefully listen to this album all the way through from beginning to end (headphones are a must). Pause. Reflect. Inhale. Exhale. Rinse. Savor. Engage, Emerge and vice Versa.

(Photo by Brandon Aviram / Michael Lerner)

VERSAEMERGE was formed by guitarist/vocalist BLAKE HARNAGE back in high school in Port St. Lucie, FL in 2005 and was originally called My Fair Verona. After several band member changes and the dawning of a new name, VersaEmerge solidified their current line-up which includes vocalist SIERRA KUSTERBECK and bassist DEVIN INGELIDO. Harnage recalls “When Sierra first tried out for the band we didn’t know what to expect,” adding that the then sixteen-year-old female vocalist lied about her age in order to land an audition. “She’s always been amazingly talented, but now she’s learning how to use that talent to its full potential.”

Talent only begins to scratch the surface of all that is VersaEmerge. This experimental alt-rock/modern prog rock trio have three exceptional EP's; Cities Built On Sand, Perceptions and VersaEmerge (the latter two feature Kusterbeck on vocals), and their brilliant debut album FIXED AT ZERO is now available via Fueled By Ramen.

Check out a campy interview shot in black & white that adds requisite color:

You Don't Yet Know You Like GABRIEL MINTZ...

Critically-Acclaimed Singer-Songwriter Gabriel Mintz

Announces Tour In Support of Volume One

Seattle-based GABRIEL MINTZ has a need to write songs. Lots of them. It’s like blood or breathing. From his West Village days on Bleeker Street to his Greyhound Bus desert individuations, Mintz has written more than a hundred songs that tell of characters and sketched out scenes. Vocals are a gangly call. Dirtied, but on. Closer to the mic, his lower register becomes unashamed of its beauty. He’s roots type Americana-leaning with a warm spatial drone.

Capturing this sublime aridness, Mintz released Volume One this spring. It documents his first full-length foray and it’s an adventurous one. The expansive beauty of tracks like “Western Days,’ “Atom Bomb” and “Firefly” amble along the mental throughway like brush across a barren Texas highway.

These contemplative capsules were destined to accompany the open plains as seen from an auto on cruise control or the dew-tinted window of a passing train. The moods that reverberate on Volume One are many; from the gritty thump of “Safeway” to the 60’s pop harmonies of “Sofa Bed” where Mintz sounds like a cross between Roger McGuinn and Neil Diamond to the majestic “Desert Sky” whose stream-of-consciousness vocal sounds like a channeling of Jim Morrison from his epic ode “The End”.

Desert Sky from Lindsay Dahlin on Vimeo.

Anchoring Gabriel’s visceral ruminations are Trent Moorman (Head Like A Kite) on drums and producer Geoff Stanfield (Sun Kil Moon) on bass who both recently joined him for a four-song live session at Seattle’s world-famous KEXP studios. The radio station's Morning Show host/producer John Richards quipped "This new Gabriel Mintz is pretty stunning stuff, emotional & beautiful music."

This tastemaker endorsement joined lofty accolades from the cities' leading publications including Seattle Weekly, SOUND Magazine and the Stranger. Also on board is GIVE Seattle (http://giveseattle.org) a thirty-plus business and non-profit collective initiated by Seattle coffee roaster Caffe Vita whom hand-selected the song “Safeway” for their 2009 “Best-of” compilation benefitting Arts Corps, Seattle’s largest nonprofit arts educator and a pipeline to local area foodbanks. Alongside Mintz, the GIVE Seattle compilation features artists such as Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, Fleet Foxes and Visqueen.

Gabe is gearing up for a spate of Seattle-area shows in July before traversing the Southeast in August on a co-bill with his cousin Adam Klein, a singer-songwriter who runs Cowboy Angel Music in Athens, GA.

- PRESS -
"This new Gabriel Mintz is pretty stunning stuff, emotional & beautiful music." "Great Album" - John Richards, Host/Producer of The Morning Show on KEXP

“He began playing and the room was suddenly painted as his world, a dark place shot through with a fluid, somehow playful beauty. His voice ached and crooned and his fingers skipped and ran down his fret board.” SOUND Magazine

“Singer songwriter Gabriel Mintz has one of the finest voices in Seattle. It’s a voice you had no idea he contained, and it surrounds you, gravelly, worn, and warm...Volume One, an alternately morose and joyous collection of finely crafted, accessible rock that’s devoid of cheese.” The Stranger

“You don’t yet know you like (Gabriel Mintz).” Seattle Weekly
