Woodstock--40 Years On: Back To Yasgur's Farm

Rhino Marks The Festival's 40th Anniversary With A 6-CD Boxed Set Featuring The Most Comprehensive Collection Ever Available Of Artists That Performed At The Festival

Features 38 Previously Unreleased Tracks; Available August 18

Remastered Versions Of The Woodstock Documentary's Out-of-Print Original Soundtrack And Follow-up Released June 2

LOS ANGELES -- Much has been written about the significance of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair as a cultural event. Ironically, what has been least examined up to now is the very thing that brought nearly half a million together in 1969: the music itself. As the historic festival marks its 40-year anniversary, Rhino presents WOODSTOCK--40 YEARS ON: BACK TO YASGUR'S FARM, a 77-song, six-CD collection that features the most comprehensive collection ever available of artists that performed at the original festival, sequenced in chronological order of performance, featuring 38 previously unreleased recordings, including the Grateful Dead, The Who, Tim Hardin, Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe & The Fish, and others. WOODSTOCK--40 YEARS ON: BACK TO YASGUR'S FARM will be available August 18 at all retail outlets, including www.rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $79.98.

To assemble the most comprehensive document of the myth-steeped weekend, the boxed set's co-producer Andy Zax pored over every inch of multitrack tape in search of the strongest parts of each of the 33 sets. "The way we approached all of the material was as if it was a cinéma verité documentary--the raw record of the event," Zax says. In addition to the music, the set offers considerable amount of ancillary material sprinkled throughout the discs--stage announcements, lysergic babble, the sounds of rain, a cameo appearance by Abbie Hoffman, and the graciousness of Max Yasgur's address to the crowd, heard for the first time in its entirety.

Another significant byproduct of WOODSTOCK--40 YEARS ON: BACK TO YASGUR'S FARMis that, by virtue of its size and rigorously chronological sequence, it gets closer to a sense of the performances as they occurred in real time than any previous compilation. For the first time, the complete and accurate set lists will be available in the boxed set's booklet. Some Woodstock aficionados will be taken aback by the actual order of the performances; it differs from both various written accounts and from Michael Wadleigh's film Woodstock, which takes certain liberties with chronology in order to maintain its narrative flow.

In addition to the boxed set, Rhino will also reissue the long out-of-print MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK AND MORE: WOODSTOCK and WOODSTOCK TWO on June 2, simultaneously with Warner Home Video's reissue of the documentary film Woodstock. Originally released in 1970 as a triple-LP, MUSIC FROM THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK AND MORE: WOODSTOCK topped Billboard's Pop album chart for four weeks, and was a Top 20 R&B album as well.

Following the chart-topping, multiplatinum success of the original soundtrack, 1971's WOODSTOCK TWO served up even more peace and music. Originally released as a double-LP, it expands the listening experience with 16 additional performances. Each set was remastered from the original analog soundboard tapes from the historic 1969 concert, and the release features rare photos and new liner notes. Both double-CD sets will be available June 2 for a suggested list price of $24.98 each.

Avril Lavigne Is Hot Hot Heat

Some pictures speak for themselves
Some are worth 1000 words
Some are worth 1 word
Some beg for discussion
Some are not what they appear
Some are completely what they appear to be
Some make it into the pages of MAXIM longing for snappy one-liners from editors and / or readers.

WHO KNOWS what Ms Best Damn Thing was thinking. Probably just bored and wanted to play dress-up for a photo shoot though her baby might have issues when she grows up if she continues to be such a "Hot-head".

Check out the rest of Avril's new photo shoot in her MySpace gallery

Iron Maiden - Flight 666 on 6/6

Last year Iron Maiden flew around the world for their Somewhere Back In Time Tour. Making their home in a 757, they took 45 days to shake the planet with their metal anthems. They knew where they were going: lead singer Bruce Dickinson was in the cockpit, piloting the plane to every one of the 23 sold-out stadium gigs. Want to know what it’s like to be on the road with one of hard rock’s most acclaimed acts? IRON MAIDEN: FLIGHT 666, a full-length documentary of the whole deal, tells the story. It premieres on VH1 Classic and Palladia on Saturday, June 6 at 9 pm; it’s VH1 premiere is 12 midnight that same evening.

“Having what is basically a flying “splitter bus” with all our gear and crew on board allowed us to undertake a touring schedule the likes of which has never been attempted before,” says Dickinson. “By being independent of flight and freight connections and schedules we could literally go where we wanted when we wanted. And so we did. It was quite a journey, exhausting at times with jet lag taking its toll, but our fans everywhere were magnificent which made all the effort and planning and time well worthwhile. It really was a unique experience until, that is, we did it again earlier this year!!”

The band played in 13 countries, also landing in Azerbaijan and Papua New Guinea en route for fuel stops, traveling 50,000 miles (70,000 km) and performing to almost half a million fans — a schedule that was only made possible by having their own “magic carpet” which enabled them to go where they wanted with all the key elements of band, crew and equipment on board one plane, christened “ED FORCE ONE."

The film is produced by celebrated award-winning film makers Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn of Banger Productions, based in Toronto, Canada, who have received international critical acclaim for their previous movies, Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey and Global Metal.
