A LOUDER DISASTER!

For Marie Catastrophe, lead singer and guitar player in A LOUDER DISASTER, a career in music wasn’t always a sure thing. She tried being a drummer in grade school, but that wasn’t a fit. When she was 15, her Gram bought her an acoustic guitar. Since no one in her family was into music, she taught herself to play, but really focused on buying herself a decent computer. McAllen, Texas wasn’t offering a girl with a guitar OR computer the opportunities she wanted, so Marie pawned the computer, bought an electric and amp, packed the acoustic and two pairs of pants and left for Los Angeles. “I knew I’d be a guitar player in LA,” she remembers.

While busking on Hollywood Blvd., Marie starting writing original music, honing her voice and building and fan base. She moved on to open mics, where she met M. Todd Bishop. Todd had been a member of the short-lived but acclaimed band Swamp Boogie Queen, and had experience in studio and on the road. He found Marie “a cool check with a great vibe” and the two joined forces to finesse Marie’s songs and get in the studio, with Todd also on bass.

With demos completed and a band in place, they started making the rounds in legendary LA clubs like The Troubadour, The Whiskey and Spaceland, and did a couple short tours. Sadly, the band was also subject to some less-than-ethical business people, and with lessons learned the hard way, Marie took control of the band, cleaned house, and started fresh with A LOUDER DISASTER.

With the addition of drummer Trey D., who’s been playing since eighth grade, A LOUDER DISASTER has just released their first EP, “The Sweet Sound of Revenge Songs.” Inspired by psycho coworkers, uncommitted musicians, endless hours toiling at work and The Alkaline Trio, “Revenge Songs” was produced by an unlikely but super-skilled artist, Scott Patton (music director for award-winning band Sugarland).

TWISTED SISTER IS HUNGRY AGAIN!

Rhino Remasters 1984 Top 20 Smash Album With A Bonus Disc Of
Unreleased Studio Recordings, Plus A New Track By The Original Lineup
For 25TH Anniversary Edition

Limited Edition Pink Vinyl Package Accompanies CD and Digital Release

Available From Rhino June 30

LOS ANGELES -- After rocking clubs from Los Angeles to New York City for more than a decade, Twisted Sister made its bones in 1984 with the quintet's second Atlantic Records release, a Top 20 album that stormed the charts with a string of hit singles and genre-bending videos. Rhino proudly wears a Twisted Sister pin on its uniform, celebrating the album's multi-platinum success with a 25th Anniversary Edition that includes a bonus disc of unreleased outtakes and early demos from the original sessions, as well as a new track recorded especially for this collection by the 1984 lineup: Dee Snider, Jay Jay French, Eddie Ojeda, Mark Mendoza, and A.J. Pero. STAY HUNGRY 25th Anniversary Edition will be available June 30 from Rhino Records at all retail outlets, including rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $19.98 (CD), $12.99 (digital).

A limited edition pink vinyl package with the original "Stay Hungry" album art and bonus poster will also be released this summer at the suggested retail price of $24.98.

The first disc contains remastered versions of the nine tracks from the May 1984 original. The album was a smash thanks to a pair of fist-pumping anthems of youthful rebellion<"I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It" that went Top 40. The band balanced those catchy songs with the harder edge of metal classics like "Burn In Hell" and "Horror-Teria," a macabre song that would later serve as the inspiration for Strangeland, a 1998 horror film written by Snider, who also starred as the sadistic Captain Howdy.

The bonus disc uncovers 15 unreleased recordings that range from alternate versions of album tracks--including "We're Not Gonna Take It"--to several non-album tracks such as "Death From Above," "Prime Motivator," and "Pay The Price," a song from the band's earlier club days. Along with the vintage tracks, the collection includes "30," Twisted's first new song in 11 years recorded by the band for the 25th Anniversary Edition.

"30" was originally written by Dee Snider with Marc Beeman and Sharon Lawson for the reality series Gone Country. Dee says, "While '30' was my attempt at a country song for the show, the realization was that rock 'n' roll is a direct outgrowth of country music. Since '30' was written about my Twisted Sister experience, it seemed only natural for us to record it and rock it out."

More than a decade after Twisted Sister's last show, the band reformed in 2001 for a benefit and continued playing together, including an astonishing run of over 50 headline festival dates performing in front of two million people in over 23 countries. In 2006, the band returned to the charts with Twisted Christmas, a holiday album that buzzsaws through yuletide classics such as, "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silver Bells." That same year, the Long Island Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Twisted Sister. The band is currently at work on a new album and a Broadway musical based on Twisted Christmas. Twisted Sister will headline the annual Rocklahoma music festival July 9-12 in Pryor, Oklahoma. Rock of Ages, Broadway's latest musical hit with five Tony® nominations, features Twisted Sister prominently in its story line and with the band's aforementioned iconic anthems, "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It."

Keep Your Occhio On This Seattle Café...

We'd like to give a shout out to OCCHIO CAFE, an annex of the trendy OUCH MY EYE Studios. This walk-up window sidewalk cafe sits just south of downtown Seattle two blocks from Safeco Baseball Field.

OCCHIO (which means "eye" in Italian) just opened in April and proudly serves STUMPTOWN COFFEE, a Portland-Seattle based direct trade outfit that is also stirring up a local buzz, both literally & figuratively. I've personally tried the Hair Bender blend and Guatamala Santa Cruz roast and both pack a punch and are ripe with flavor integrity.

Next time you're in the vicinity of their GPS coordinates, stop by OCCHIO for a cup of bold NW java and say hello to proprietors Bob and John.

OCCHIO CAFE
1022 1st Ave S
Seattle WA 98134

Hot brew in hand, be sure to marvel at whatever current post-modern art show may be running at their gallery. May 9-31 is the 2nd incarnation of MUPPET RAWK, a pop culture tribute to the imaginative world of Jim Henson and the art of rock album covers. From Hendrix to Beeker, Van Halen to Dr. Teeth, Muppett Rawk is sure to entertain and inspire. My personal favorite is Bert supplanted on the stark moody cover of Iron Maiden's klassic debut album, a heavy metal opus from 1980 that unleashed the songs "Phantom of the Opera," "Running Free," "Sanctuary" and "Iron Maiden".

Check out the latest entries into the MUPPET HALL OF RAWK.

Spooky Tooth Celebrates Island Records' 50th Anniversary

Coming full-circle in his four+ decade career, Gary Wright will be performing with his first band, SPOOKY TOOTH, in the U.K. and Europe this month. The first date will be part of a remarkable week-long celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Island Records and its founder Chris Blackwell.

On May 29th, a re-formed SPOOKY TOOTH with original members Mike Harrison and Wright along with guitarist Steve Farris (Mr. Mister), bassist Shem von Schroeck (Kenny Loggins / Michael McDonald) and drummer Tom Brechtlein (Chick Corea) will take the stage of London’s Shepherds Bush Empire, cementing the band’s place in the history of the storied label (which also launched the careers of U2 and Bob Marley).

British-based, SPOOKY TOOTH's place in the history of music is clear, as one of the most innovative, progressive rock bands of the late 1960s / early 1970s. Employing a ground-breaking twin-keyboard sound, the group hit their critical apex on 1969's Spooky Two which included the song “Better By You, Better Than Me” (covered by Judas Priest in 1978 on their Stained Class album).

Other artists on the Anniversary program include Cat Stevens/Yusef, Keane, Paul Weller, The Fratellis, Ladyhawke, Baaba Maal, Sly & Robbie and Amy Winehouse. Full details are at www.island50.com.

Then, SPOOKY TOOTH is on to Germany, to perform an open air concert on May 31st at Kulturelle Landpartie in Muetzingen and then theater dates at Muziktheatre Piano in Dortmund on June 1st and Tante Ju in Dresden on June 6th.

When back in the States, Gary will continue work on his forthcoming full-length record of all-new material. CONNECTED will include the single, “Satisfied,” which features Ringo Starr on drums. The new material will continue in the vein of Wright’s latest The Light of a Million Suns EP which includes a Hip Hop/R&B-infused update of the enduring hit “Love is Alive,” which first appeared on his seminal The Dream Weaver album.
